The First Tree
A 2.5-metre 3D-printed sculpture for artist Øyvind Engvik, the keystone of his post-collapse Mars series.

Øyvind Engvik — Engwin — is a Norwegian artist known for digital work with a strong narrative pull. One of his series imagines an apocalyptic future where Earth has collapsed and humanity has moved to Mars; The First Tree is its keystone, the first tree planted in a new world.
We took it from digital file to a physical sculpture around two and a half metres tall — working out how it should be built to stand stable, how to split it into printable components, and printing the whole thing. It took a lot of filament to reach the form Engwin wanted. The finished piece has a strong presence and was covered in Dagens Næringsliv and elsewhere.
