Viking Rap

For their next tour, Undergrunn returned with another creative challenge. This time, they wanted custom-designed shoulder pads for one of their stage outfits. After an exploratory design process, we decided to draw inspiration from one of the oldest known Norwegian design motifs, the wood carving from Urnes Stave Church, which is over a thousand years old.

The motif was recreated and adapted into a modern form, serving as the foundation for the handcrafted shoulder pads. The result is an expression that blends Norwegian cultural heritage with contemporary art and stage design.

In line with Undergrunn’s album Norge elsker rap, the costumes symbolize the meeting of tradition and modernity, where ancient carvings adorn the artists as they perform for a young and modern audience.
