The First Tree
Engwin, or Øyvind Engvik, is a Norwegian artist known for digital works with strong visual narratives. One of his series depicts an apocalyptic future where Earth has collapsed and humanity has relocated to Mars. In this universe, The First Tree stands as one of the key pieces, a symbol of the first tree planted in a new world.
The artwork was to be realised as a physical sculpture measuring around two to two and a half metres. We contributed to both the technical and practical stages of the process. This involved solving how the sculpture should be constructed to remain stable and how each component should be produced. The entire piece was 3D printed, requiring a significant amount of filament to achieve the form Engwin envisioned.
The result was a large sculpture with a powerful presence that was featured in Dagens Næringsliv and other media. One of the first major projects of the year and a clear example of how digital art can take physical shape.
