The film is created by collaborators from several countries. Uppercase is a business development studio at Skøyen that hosts the annual Out of Office Exhibition. Each year, they invite Norwegian artists to create works that are displayed on large screens at Aker Brygge and other locations in the city.

For this year’s exhibition, they needed an illuminated sign. We developed a bright red sign based on their logo, with varying depths in the letters to create volume and a sense of movement in the form.

The lighting was solved using an Arduino and neopixels. Each diode can be programmed individually, which offers great flexibility. We created a simple program that gave the sign a subtle flickering effect, almost like a neon sign losing its connection. Neopixels also make it possible to create many other animations, so the solution can be further developed if desired.
